Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which sweaters can be unravelled?

Look for sweaters with chain-stitched (looped) seams rather than serged/overlocked seams. If a seam was cut and overlocked with a blade, the yarn has been severed into short strands and cannot be reclaimed as one continuous skein. Rewind Yarn's seam scan specifically helps you check for this! Also avoid felted wool (unless you want to do needle felting), as felted fibres cling together and cannot be pulled apart without snapping.

2. How does the camera scan work?

The app takes 3 photos:

1. Overall sweater: to evaluate colour, knit style and gauge.
2. Garment care label: to read fibre content (e.g. 100% Wool, 80% Merino / 20% Nylon) and washing instructions.
3. Interior seam: to inspect whether the pieces were knit-to-shape or machine-cut and serged.

After scanning, you can edit or confirm every recognized detail before it is calculated and saved into your stash.

3. What if I am in a shop with no internet connection?

Rewind Yarn is built offline-first! You can take photos in offline mode, manually select the fibre and enter the weight, and our built-in maths engine will instantly calculate the yardage and matched patterns right on your device.

4. How do I join the TestFlight / Google Play Beta?

We are actively onboarding crocheters and knitters to test our pattern templates and yarn yardage calibration! If you want early access via Apple TestFlight or the Google Play Closed Testing track, send us an email at support@rewindyarn.com with the subject “Join Rewind Yarn Beta”.

5. How can I delete my data or reset my stash?

All stash items and active crochet projects are saved locally on your phone in a private SQLite database. You can swipe to delete any item directly inside the app, or delete all app data by uninstalling the application.
